    • Independent Contractors submit the 1099 form (schedule C)
  • If you teach to the studio's requirements, rely on the studio's props, and your studio withholds taxes from your paycheck, you are probably an employee of that studio.
    • Employees submit W2 forms sent from employer (only if yous earned more than $600 that year)

The departure here is primal – if you are an contained contractor, you are eligible for tax deductions!

Stride 2: Have conscientious notes while tracking the following:

  • How many classes you teach at each studio?
  • What you get paid per grade?
  • Mileage driving to and from studios?
  • Expenses you tin can write off:
    1. Yoga article of clothing
    2. Yoga gear (mats, blocks, etc)
    3. Training
    4. Liability insurance, CPR training, etc.
    5. Workshops and continuing education
    6. Spotify or your music subscription

And then, organize your expenses:

  • Keep receipts, pay stubs, and checks you've deposited. Keep all of this information in some sort of filing organization, organized by month. A manilla binder works. You'll thank yourself subsequently.
  • Create an excel spreadsheet in Jan (do not wait until April!). Track coin that flows in (excluding your "employee" income) and track your expenses. This will help when you make full out Schedule C (especially since you accept all of your receipts in your file folder).
